2. "Sovereignty" Is the New Argument for Open Source Geospatial

Bill Dollins (geoMusings) wrote the most substantive independent post of the day: an argument that "sovereignty" — the word suddenly appearing in conference themes, strategy documents, and geopolitical discourse — represents a qualitatively different case for open source than the community has historically made. None of the three pieces addressed operational deployments with measurable outcomes.

Why this matters: The GeoAI hype cycle is running at full volume without a feedback loop from production. The supply side — tool builders, institutes, infrastructure vendors — dominates the conversation. That's not a critique, it's a diagnostic: the ecosystem still lacks the commercial vertical voices who could say what actually works at scale.
